6-15 The Five Points of Calvinism Verses (T.U.L.I.P.)
The Five Points of Calvinism are:
T - Total Depravity,
U - Unconditional Election,
L - Limited Atonement,
I - Irresistible Grace, and
P - the Perseverance of the Saints.
T - Total Depravity: man is completely sinful
-Romans 8:7 - Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
-Romans 3:9-12 - 9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
U - Unconditional Election: God chose ahead of time who He would “elect” as saints/believers
-John 15:16 - Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
-Ephesians 1:5 - Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
L - Limited Atonement: Jesus’ death provided salvation for the elect only
-Romans 9:13 - As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
-John 10:11 - I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
I - Irresistible Grace: the elect cannot resist God’s Will to save them.
-John 6:37-39 - 37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
-Ps 110:3 - Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
P - Preservation of the Saints: If you have been justified before God you cannot lose your salvation. Once a person is truly saved, this salvation is eternally secure. AKA, Once Saved, Always Saved.
-John 10:28-29 - 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
-1 John 2:19 - They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
This episode covers the pillars of Calvinism, known largely as the Five Points of Calvinism. These doctrines are named for the distinct theological stances taken by the Protestant reformer John Calvin (1500s). Calvinism develops Luther's doctrine of justification by faith alone and has a strong emphasis on the sovereignty of God, the depravity of humankind, and the doctrine of predestination.
This Protestant theological system has roots in the philosophical system known as Determinism. Determinism is the doctrine that all events, including human action, are ultimately determined by causes external to the will. Some philosophers have taken determinism to imply that individual human beings have no free will and cannot be held morally responsible for their actions.
Some type of Determinism has roots going back to more than 300 years before Christ came to earth. This was not a belief presented in the Old Testament. Is this yet another example of a man-made tradition being put ON to the word of God?
